Albania, located in south-eastern Europe, between Greece, Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro, boasts a breathtakingly varied landscape. Flat coast lands change into wild ragged karst landscapes. The snow-covered mountains, wild gorges, roaring waterfalls, deep-blue lakes and intact river courses are home to an extremely rich faunal and floral diversity. Decades of war prevented the large parts of the country from being ruthlessly exploited. Today, the former restricted military areas have become national parks.
