Program
A small village at an altitude of 3,100 m, in the north of Pakistan, near the border to China. Almost no electricity, no running water, only accessible in a Jeep. In the mountaineering world, Shimshal is known as the “Village of Mountain Climbers”. The nature is so sparse, that there is barely any agriculture. Since ever, local mountaineers – until now only men – have guided tourists to the snow-covered summits in the region. In the last four years, however, Muslim women have started to turn the traditional Pakistan role model upside down, they have become mountain guides.
