The Bale Mountains National Park in the highlands of Ethiopia displays an extraordinarily rich biodiversity. The mountains rise up to almost 4,400 metres and thus are the biggest remaining alpine living space in Africa. Bale is like a window into the past, because like this here were once Africa’s high mountains, before the humans have changed this area in a big style. Today, more and more humans penetrate into the mountains and they destroy the last surfaces with natural vegetation just to create fields and pastures. Therefore, there is now a heavy conflict concerning the unique Bale mountains.
