During the retreat of the last Ice Age, a great number of dead ice lakes were formed in South Germany. They were created by melting ice and glacial remnants. Already during their genesis, they reflect the effect of a warm age. In former winter times, they were constantly frozen and one could enjoy ice skating. Meanwhile, a frozen lake is an exceptional case, and if one freezes, it is just for a few days.
