The 2018 lower Puna eruption was the most destructive volcanic activity in the United States since the 1980 eruption of Mount St Helens. More than 700 houses were destroyed (official count) and a damage of more than 800 Million Dollars caused. Fissures have opened directly in Leilani in the backyards of houses or directly underneath. People and property suffered from earthquakes, fissures, gases and direct impact of lava. Forests, lakes, gardens and houses were transformed into a surreal world.
