Born in Darjeeling, India, in November, 1965, Tashi Tenzing is grandson of Tenzing Norgay who, with Sir Edmund Hillary, made the first ascent of Everest on 29th May 1953. In 1993, Tashi led the expedition marking the 40th Anniversary of his grandfather’s historic Everest ascent – although he missed the summit himself, Tashi’s leadership placed two team members on top of Everest. In 1997 however, he reached the summit himself – his life's dream fulfilled and the road now clear to take on new adventures. In 2002 and 2007, Tashi again reached the summit of Mount Everest. Tashi speaks vividly about the world of Himalayan mountaineering from three fresh and unique viewpoints – the Tenzing lineage and his grandfather’s achievements, an exploration of Sherpa society and culture, and his own Everest quest, disappointments and accomplishments. Tashi’s accounts are illustrated with excerpts from his latest venture – a film that was featured and highly acclaimed at the 2003 Banff International Mountain Film Festival. Together, Tashi’s words and pictures give a highly visual and intimate look at the Tenzing clan and the mountain that shaped them.
