Description
The most impressive jungle giants can be found in the rain forests of Costa Rica: the Almendro trees. From their roots to their treetops, which are 50 metres high, these trees are home to nearly 1,000 different living species and more than 60 different animals enjoy their fruits. The big, green cockatoo, a magnificent parrot, and the Almendro tree are inseparably linked. The bird breeds in the knotholes of the “wonder tree” and lives mainly from its almond-shaped seeds. Through over-forestation and overexploitation these trees and their inhabitants are seriously endangered.
