Somewhere in the Gya-Miru valley, in the dessert-like mountains of the Ladakh area in the Himalayas, a shepherdess named Tsering tends a herd of 300 sheep and Pashmina goats. Her only companions are her animals, and the steady threat of wolves and snow leopard. The only connection to the outside world is her little radio. Everything seems to be an expression of Tsering’s lust for life: when she runs down the steep slopes, when she assists at the goats’ birth, when she prepares the fireplace under her pots, or when she is singing for herself. She has been working for 40 years as a shepherdess – however, the changing climate conditions worry Tsering when she looks into the future. What will happen to her animals, to her village, to her life? The upcoming winter will show how things will develop.
