Dramatic rocky gorges and white water rapids – this is the Colorado River, with its 2,333 kilometres, the second longest and biggest river of North America. It supplies 30 million people in the West of the USA with water and energy. For this purpose, ten huge dams have been built, among them, the Hoover Dam is the most famous one. However, due to that massive impact, the river does not reach any more its natural estuary in the Pacific. The river delta in the neighbouring Mexico has already dried out 50 years ago. After years of negotiations, once a year water is allowed to flow in the dry riverbed across the border. For the inhabitants of the Mexican border city, which carries the name of the Colorado, this is a historic moment!
