Portugal’s climate is marked by the Atlantic cold in the north and the Mediterranean flair in the south. Therefore, a mosaic of most varied living spaces could develop there. Whereas in the far west storks breed on the storm-battered cliffs, the wild horses, the Garranos, have retreated into the mountains of the national park Peneda-Geres. In the south of the river Tejo however, the great bustard is living in a vast steppe landscape. And at night, the shy genet is hunting in the protective cork oak forests.
