In the glacier world of the Ötztaler Alps, glaciers are called “Ferner”. The star of the Ötztaler Alps is a man of the past, a tattooed nomad whose mummified corpse attracts many visitors to the Museum of Bozen: Ötzi. This mummified corpse is the subject of scientific research and a messenger of the prehistoric world. On the foot of the mighty Mount Ortler is located the Messner Mountain Museum Ortles, which is dedicated to the eternal ice. In its subterranean halls, it gives insight into the depths of a mountain and its glaciers.
