Many of the fascinating caves in the Mountains are freely accessible. Some of them bear indicative names, such as “Riesending” (“Enormous Thing”). However, narrow passages and stone avalanches are only some of the numerous risks in the subterranean world. Even professional cave explorers are not immune to serious accidents. In such cases, a special team of mountain rescuers sets off. These voluntary helpers risk their own lives in order to rescue others. Sometimes those operations can even last several days with an uncertain outcome.
