With the term „Waldheimat“ (forest homeland), the Austrian writer Peter Rosegger has given a name to a whole region. Since then, this land between the Mürz Valley and the eastern Styrian hill country is no more only a geographical place in the eastern Alps. The “Waldheimat” has become a synonym, a founder of collective identity, the original idea of being “Styrian”. One hundred years have passed, and what has changed since, was above all mankind. For this documentary, Klaus Steindl has watched the animals of the “Waldheimat” in the course of the seasons. Thus, the landscape around the Alpl with its numerous untouched places offers many gorgeous motives and surprising animal stories.
