The peregrine is the fastest bird on earth. With a top speed of up to 300 kilometres per hour, it holds the top record in the animal kingdom. In the middle of the 1970s, the peregrine was almost extinct in all of Germany and had also disappeared from many other European countries. It was found that the reasons why were because of DDT and other pesticides which had entered into the food chain. This film documents the fascinating story of the peregrine’s return in Germany. The very shy raptor has become an ingenuous survivalist. Thanks to its clever strategies, this bird succeeds in settling down again in cities and in the country, and to conquer even new regions, such as the Wadden Sea.
