Sri Lanka is scattered with natural lakes, particularly with tens of thousands of artificial reservoirs and channels. Those have been constructed by men in the past centuries, in order to store the precious liquid for the field irrigation in dry periods. Those artificial “tanks” are partly more than 2000 years old. In the course of time, those reservoirs have become an important meeting point for numerous animals, such as elephants, leopards, langur monkeys, chital deer, water buffalos and wild boars.
