A fascinating change of perspective: this film shows a mystic parallel world under our feet. We glance into the sleeping room of alpine marmots, into the glittering world of the huge salt mine of Bernburg, or into the cave “Riesending” which curls along 20 breath-taking kilometres into the “belly” of the Untersberg Mountain in the German Berchtesgaden region. Speleologists have to spend days completely without any outside support in order to come closer to the cave’s end point. The fabulous Blauhöhle (blue cave) can only be reached after having dived in a 1,500m long subterranean watercourse. A complex computer animation leads us into the deep streams of the ground water and to the subterranean tracery of mushrooms, of which we can only see the smallest part on the earth’s surface.
