The island Onekotan is situated in an unique position on our planet, on the Pacific Rim of Fire, somewhere between Kamchatka and Hokkaido. Uninhabited, in the centre of the most stormy and coldest sea regions on earth, it is of an outstanding beauty. It is so fascinating, that Matthias Haunholder and Matthias Mayr decided to undertake a ski expedition. Such as it was the case with the mythological Sirens, the relationship turns out to be an unexpected one. The fact that, 18 days after their arrival on Onekotan, the team members are still alive (apart from some suffering frostbite), is owed to their team spirit, their experience and their unlimited motivation to reach their goal.
