In this film, we travel to the thrilling world of old giant trees, which have their roots, for many centuries, in Styria, Austria’s richest province in terms of wood. Several of the 600 trees, which are designated as natural monuments, are portrayed here. From “Europe’s oldest oak tree” to the “Queen of the Alps”, a Swiss stone pine; from the resistant gingko to the giant redwood tree; from the healing powers of the lime, to the healthy effects of the larch. This documentary deals with trees as living beings, with their abilities, their utilisation, their dwellers, and their cultural meaning. In addition to all these fascinating aspects, short anecdotes characterise the giant trees. Whom and what might those Methuselahs already have seen in their tree life?
