One of the most unique forests of the world is located in the south of Europe. Shaped by man and marked by the Mediterranean climate for hundreds of years: the “Dehesa”. It is the name for pastured oak groves which extend over large parts of southwest Spain and Portugal. They are among the most biodiverse areas on earth. The Dehesa is rich in animal and flora species, also the landscape shows many facets: In the middle of wooded pastures rugged mountain ranges arise, and in the valleys there are abundant water resources.
