A team of researchers sets out to the Arctic’s last iced-over area, 900 kilometres from the North Pole, to measure the oldest ice floes in the world. People here seem like tiny specks in the icy marine wilderness – and they are completely on their own. Before long, the researchers find themselves in a chaos of collapsing ice sheets, making progress seem all but impossible. With their loaded kayaks, they struggle to find a route that was navigable only a few years earlier. Trapped in a frozen maelstrom, their attention turns to mere survival.
