In the midst of the Allgäuer Hochalpen nature reserve in the southernmost part of Germany, a handful of people keep the traditional cultural landscape of the Rappenalp valley alive. In the summer months, the mountain cabins are open for business and the ring of cowbells resounds in the valley as hikers and mountaineers enjoy the great outdoors; in winter, the valley is shrouded in silence, with all of nature covered in a blanket of white. Only professional hunter Bernhard Striegel continues his rounds, making sure the red deer are fed.
