About three percent of Austria’s surface area has been designated as national park land. Here, nature can thrive without human interference. The animal and plant species found here are our natural heritage and must be preserved at all cost. The journey takes us from the storm-swept summit of the Großglockner across the largest river meadows in Central Europe to imposing rock formations in the Gesäuse and into deep forests. The common aim of Austria’s six national parks is to preserve the country’s diverse natural heritage and meet the challenges of the future.
