In 2018, Barbara Zangerl and Jacopo Larcher managed the first repetition of “Odyssey”, the most difficult route through the 1400 m Eiger North Face. It took them four days, during which they lived on the rock face, carrying large amounts of water, food and equipment with them. If it were possible to climb the 33 pitches of the “Odyssey” – which are graded at difficulty levels of up to 10 – in a single day, one could do away with the ballast. Naturally, the Eiger itself has a word or two to say about it.
