Can you cross Austria only on skis? That is the question that prompted Lukas and Bastian to venture on a 14-day trip across the Eastern Alps on skis to find out. Their journey begins on the Glattjochbahn, Austria’s westernmost chairlift near the Swiss border and – hampered by dense fog, lack of snow, broken ski lifts and cancelled transfer buses – takes them eastwards over steep slopes, frozen mountain lakes and a few 3000 m peaks past Innsbruck and Kitzbühel.
