The Canadian filmmaker and ultramarathon runner Caroline Côté and her partner, the French polar explorer Vincent Colliard, want to set a new record: Without any outside help, they want to cross the island of Spitsbergen on skis in winter. But it’s an unforgiving place: icy cold, the polar night and heavy luggage make for an arduous journey. Will they reach the island’s southern tip before the first day of spring?
