“The forest has a thousand eyes” is an old German hunter’s saying that alludes to the eyes of wild animals. In his short film, Dutch filmmaker Sebastian Mulder reinterprets the saying, reappropriating it instead to refer to the eyes of the surveillance cameras that follow the journey of Naya the wolf from her birthplace in Germany across the Netherlands and into Belgium. Eventually, her resulting “fame” endangers her wildness and eventually even her very existence.
